Drone roof inspections: what does a detailed report add?

ProVision Inspections · Published 7 October 2026

Roofs, gutters and upper façades can be difficult to view from the ground, particularly on a two-storey home. Drone photographs can provide another view of elevated external areas, where conditions allow safe flight and useful visibility.

At ProVision, there is a difference between the drone photographs included in a building and pest report and a separately booked detailed drone inspection report.

What is included in a building and pest report?

ProVision’s building and timber pest report includes approximately 10 drone photographs and any defects identified through that assessment, subject to suitable weather, site conditions and flight access. These images support the wider building and pest inspection.

What does the detailed drone report cover?

A standalone or add-on detailed report includes approximately 20–40 photographs. The roof survey uses views from different heights to document visible roofs, gutters, fascias and upper façades, including elevated areas of two-storey homes that cannot be inspected from the ground.

Discuss any specific roof or exterior concerns before booking. The agreed scope and the visibility available on the day determine what can be documented.

More photographs do not mean every issue can be identified

Drone images show visible external surfaces. They do not reveal conditions concealed beneath roof coverings or inside walls, and an aerial view does not replace every form of closer investigation. Shadows, obstructions and the angle of a surface can affect what is visible. Read the report’s findings and limitations together, and follow recommendations for further assessment where needed.

When might a detailed report be useful?

You may want a more detailed photographic record of an elevated exterior, or have particular roof, gutter or upper-façade concerns you would like assessed. Explain the purpose of the report to Ray so the scope can be confirmed. If you are buying a home, the detailed drone report can supplement a building and pest inspection; it does not replace its wider assessment.

Pricing and booking

A detailed drone inspection report is $329 standalone, or $229 when added to a building and pest inspection. Both prices include GST. Flight and assessment depend on suitable weather, site conditions and flight access.
